We have been part of the Portland community since 1928, and our mission of providing compassionate, state-of-the-art office and surgical care
for all patients with diseases of the small bowel, colon, rectum and anus remains unchanged.
Our group pioneered the Gambee stitch, a running inverted closure of wounds; developed the technique of restoring pelvic organ prolapse, called the total pelvic mesh repair (TPMR); reported on the use of mesh in the repair of stomal prolapse
and hernias with one of the lowest recurrence rates
in the literature.
We were the first in the Northwest to place the artificial anal
sphincter for the treatment of fecal incontinence and have developed a
technique of implanting the device with minimal infection and failure.
We are continuing to develop and improve on surgical techniques,
including minimally invasive surgery (laparoscopy) in the care
of patients with colon and rectal disease.
Each
of our physicians is board certified or board eligible in Colon and
Rectal Surgery, bringing to Portland specialized training and experience
from around the country.
Today we are called upon to consult and treat patients with cancers of the small bowel, colon, rectum and
anus; colon polyps and polyposis syndromes; Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, constipation, incontinence, pelvic floor
prolapse; ileostomies and colostomies; hemorrhoids and other benign anorectal
disorders; and
infectious diseases of the anus.
